Post-Armstrong Cycling Australia eats itself alive

Others in the Cycling Australia network also need to come clean about their participation - in many different ways - in the long-term corruption of Australian cycling. They need to reveal their roles in maintaining the Armstrong conspiracy and their role in inducting others into that system.

Matt White on doping with US Postal: “I too was involved in that strategy.”

MEDIA RELEASE 13 October 2012 Statement Regarding USADA Report and My Time at US Postal Service Team I am aware my name has been mentioned during talks that USADA has had with former team mates of mine in their investigation regarding doping activities at the US Postal Service team. I am sad to say that [...]

Was the 2012 Northern Territory election the dirtiest ever?

Peter Hanks QC: " ... If the facts as alleged in the 8 statutory declarations are accurate, several offences against s. 266(2) of the Electoral Act (NT) were committed at Wadeye ... offences that seriously threaten the integrity of he operation of the Electoral Act (NT) and the sytem of representative government in the Northern Territory."

Phoney NT election battle between Mr Beige and Mr Chroma-Key

Paul Henderson’s NT Labor is a shoo-in to win the NT election next Saturday. Not because its policies or political performances are any better than the opposition Country Liberals (they aren’t) or because it has won the battle for the hearts and minds of the NT electorate (what battle?) but because it has sold the party to voters better on screen and in the press. Henderson (“Hendo to you, mate”) set the tone from the start — this election would be a presidential contest between he and the Country Liberals’ Terry Mills.

Would you like a c**t with that? When a Coke promotion goes weird.

Definition of Buju: Good looking person (Australian Aboriginal Slang) Derived from an Australian Aboriginal language it was also used as another word for vagina. "He/She is a real Buju." See more words with the same meaning: vulva ('vagina'), female genitalia.

Lance Armstrong and the conspiracy of dunces*

These charges are baseless, motivated by spite and advanced through testimony bought and paid for by promises of anonymity and immunity. Although USADA alleges a wide-ranging conspiracy extended over more than 16 years, I am the only athlete it has chosen to charge. USADA’s malice, its methods, its star-chamber practices, and its decision to punish first and adjudicate later all are at odds with our ideals of fairness and fair play. I have never doped.

Apocryphal tale of the week? Sydney Airport, terrorism and the frozen croissant.

"It's terrorism." she says. "The croissants have to be refrigerated because Sydney Airport says that if they aren't then they could be used by terrorists so we have to refrigerate them." That comment went through to the keeper until "terrorism" & "croissant" fell together in the back-blocks of my jet-lagged brain as unlikely companions. "What did you say?" "The croissants. We have to heat them up because Sydney Airport says so. It's a terrorist thing."

Bad law of the week: Sections 90 and 91 of the Northern Territory National Emergency Response Act

“Bad Law of the Week” will be an (ir)regular feature looking at my choice – or your nominations – of legal measures that are but should no longer be on the statute books. I can think of a half-dozen candidates off the top of my head. I’m sure that readers will be able [...]

Tony Fitzgerald – an unlikely Territorian hero

The take-over, or Northern Territory Emergency Response, was conceived in Canberra without discussion with the NT government or the affected communities. The Northern Territory Emergency Response was coercive, heavy handed and designed on the run with limited planning as a short-term response to enable the commonwealth to obtain control, stabilise, normalise and exit. Although styled as an “emergency” government response to the 97 recommendations of the “Little Children are Sacred” report, the Northern Territory Emergency Response ignored those recommendations and it is common knowledge that the government ignored the dysfunction, disadvantage and disorder prevailing in remote communities for the last 40 years.

Bird of the week: Buff-banded Rail … and why I hate cats…

there were few ground-dwelling birds in my yard until a few months ago when I noticed a brief flash of feathered chestnut skulking in the ferns near the pool. I didn't think much of it at the time until a few days later I saw this most beautiful bird - a Buff-banded Rail Gallirallus philipensis - in full view. Over the next few weeks we got more and more familiar with each other's company. Now it is dead. eaten by neighbourhood cats.
